Description: Child Development and Parenting focuses on the development physically, intellectually, and socially in children from birth to school age. The parenting curriculum will focus on students' development of parenting attitudes, knowledge and skills in taking care of children in a variety of family settings. Guest speakers and working with children on a one on one basis will be an important part of this class.

Description: Clothing and the Consumer is designed to assist students in identifying textiles, make wardrobe selections, identifying clothes for specific figure types, making necessary pattern alterations, and selecting clothes for the workplace. Skills in fashion merchandising will also be discussed. Students will need to supply fabric, pattern, scissors, and notions needed to make two garments. Projects will be determined by individual members of the class in consultation with the instructor. Learning to use the computerized sewing machine and embroidery module to embellish garments will also be taught in this semester course.

Description: This course is open to Juniors and Seniors who have the desire to learn skills needed to live an independent life. The goal of the class is to give students the means to make better decisions in the world of work, home and family life. Units studied are nutrition and meal planning for one, budgeting and financial management, clothing selection for the workplace, laundry and stain removal, housing choices-rental vs. buying, and finding the right insurance for individual needs.

Description: This course is designed to assist students in recognizing basic nutritional concepts and needs for themselves and their families. Units of study include food safety and cooking management, cooking with small appliances, Choose My Plate cooking principles, nutrition and disease prevention, outdoor cookery, and use of leftovers. Students can expect to become 'actively' involved in learning about food preparation. Students will also participate in food preparation, serving and other tasks involved in operating the Heart and Soul Cafe (a School-to-Work project).
